Whale of a Good Time!

I received a call from a customer requesting cake bites for a baby shower she was hosting. She asked for half Birthday Cake and half Chocolate Chunker.  Easy enough.  Oh yeah right!  She then tells me that it is for a boy and it is whale themed and would like them to look like whales.  Before I could even think about it, I just said SURE.  What was I thinking (I wasn't)!  I am not a trained baker and I could feel myself getting in over my head.  But I had already committed and there was no backing down now.  I told her that I would do a trail run on them first and send her a picture and if she didn't like them we could go with balls.  So there I was in the kitchen thinking "here goes nothing"..........

This is the picture I sent her for her approval.  She was happy, so they were a go.

I must note that I am terrible about remembering to take pictures.  I was running out the door to deliver them when I remembered the I had not taken a picture of the finished product. There was also no telling where my daughter finally set the camera down when she was done taking her pretend pictures earlier in the day.  Long story short these were taken on my camera phone, but I need a couple of my whales all together. :)

Style Blueprint

Thursday was a very exciting day for KCB.  I was the article of the day for http://www.louisville.styleblueprint.com/.  It is an amazing website / blog that discusses everything from fashion, food and entertainment, weekly events, and offers funny subjects like why are womens soccer players wearing their headbands like that.  If you have not been to their site it is a definite must.

When I met Heidi earlier in the summer and she said she was interested in doing a piece on me and KCB I was so excited, but at the same time very nervous.  I just do these out of my house, nothing fancy going on here in the Douglas house.  So I was worried that my bites might come across as cheesy and not the gourmet treat that I intend for them to be.  I should have known better.  My nervous apprehension was at ease a few weeks ago when Heidi and her kiddos came to the house to take some pictures and watch how I make my cake bites.

Her article was great and if you haven't read it make sure to take a look and while your are at it make sure and sign up for the style blueprint updates.  You might get a KCB deal coming soon if you are a style blueprint follower.

Thanks again Heidi!!

Bridal White

A very dear friend of mine was hosting a bridal shower for one of her good friends and of course she called me and ordered some cake bites :)  The brides colors are going to be green and brown so we decided to coordinate with her colors for some of the bites.

This is the bridal white by itself and then how she set them up for the party.  Notice the bites in the center are sprinkled with the green crystals.

Chocolate with green drizzle. Bridal white with a little sprinkle of green crystals. Perfect for a little personalization.

This is how the hostess chose to display her bites.  I think the monogram is the perfect touch.

Cartwheels

My very first large event was earlier this summer at the Cartwheels anniversary party.  Cathy and Meredith were so great to work with. They just said, "we need 300." To which I replied, "what kind?"  There they were trying to get ready for a huge party and they were trying to make it easy on me.  "what ever you do best"  and there it was.  I made my 6 classic flavors. Birthday Cake (every ones favorite), Chocolate Chunker, Red Velvet, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Cookies N Cream, and PB and Chocolate. If you live in the Louisville area and have not been to Cartwheels it is a must. They have the best things.  It can also get you in trouble too.  I always see thing that I didn't even know I needed but now must have :)

Cartwheels provided their own cake stands and tiered towers that they do sell at their store. (I told you they have cute stuff) Which was a great way to display their product as well.

Yes, that is me.  For larger events I am more than happy to, man the station.  I loved it.  I was able to introduce my cake bites to so many great people.

On the top is Birthday Cake.  Vanilla cake mixed with butter cream frosting and then dipped in white chocolate. The bottom is Chocolate Chunker in the front.  A chocolate, chocolate chip fudge cake with chocolate icing then dipped in dark chocolate and topped with chips and drizzled with more chocolate.  In the back are the Cookies N Cream. Chocolate fudge cake mixed with butter cream and dipped in white chocolate then topped with cookies and dark chocolate. OH but wait for the surprised when you bite in, there is a cookie on the inside to. :)
